Bruce Jenner’s Special Olympics

images Bruce Jenner, the Olympic gold medalist, sometime actor, poster boy for Wheaties, is becoming a woman and the world is going wonky over it.

Not only is he involved with those crazy Kardashians, but he now wants to wear their clothes…a bad joke (Kris is his wife and Kim is step-daughter).

images-4 At least it explains all that wild plastic surgery. Bruce Jenner, one of the cutest guys around, when he started looking like the cat lady eyebrows, and not just his, shot up. Rearranging his face was a first step to trading in his 65 year-old body for a more feminine one. images-1

Gender swapping is nothing new, in or out of the press, Chaz Bono being the last scrutinized soul in 2011 heroically Dancing With The Stars.

There was a beautiful girl I met in a 12 Step meeting who seemed chiseled from ivory. One day I said to my friend Joe, “There’s something so perfect about Abigail…she looks like a young boy,” and Joe said, “It’s because she is one…well…in a manner of speaking.” I was shocked…so that’s why she looks as if Michelangelo made her.

Androgyny, in any form, is very seductive.

I remember at 13 wanting to be Gene Kelly, not Grace but Gene. I wasn’t about to install an Adam’s apple mind you, but I did ask for a sailor suit for Christmas. It didn’t go beyond wanting to be on leave with Frank Sinatra, but it had its moment. After my mother threatened to lock me in my room till I was 30, I slipped my dress back on, but totally, even on the shallowest of levels, understand.

It’s more than a little courageous going through such a change. One of my favorite authors, Jennifer Finney Boylan who, before transitioning, used to be James Boylan. Her books about longing to be a girl are frank and funny, but sifting through the humor is a poignancy that can’t be denied. Imagine yearning to be another sex to the point where it aches, even after marriage and fathering two children.

She explains diplomatically what exactly happens undergoing this extreme operation. You have to want it pretty bad to go through with it.

There was a young man in the bed next to her who didn’t fare so well heartbreaking to read about, reminding you, it’s a huge risk.

What a pity the press zoom in like vultures when a story like this breaks he/she having no peace to speak of.

My heart opens for Bruce Jenner supported by acute admiration for standing solidly in his truth, since…

as we know, is never easy. images-3

  2. Living so publicly in the fake capital, being married to the Queen of Fake, while spawning fake children, it is no wonder he decided to finally live his truth. Nothing could be worse than living with Kris & crew…Bruce will be fine.

    • That’s an outlook alright…did you know Kris was a good friend of Joan Rivers? I don’t know. She is very attractive and I have no idea what she may have looked like before since I assume she too had some type of surgery…but again, you look at early pictures of him…they married in 1991…and I can’t see them as a couple. I’m glad you think he’ll be fine…then I will too 🙂

  3. Marching to a different drummer is never easy. We have some gays in my family. I thank God that in this day and age they are not looked at as freaks but just ordinary people. Thirty years ago, people weren’t as accepting. Hopefully that will come to for gender challenged folks. Soon.

To each his own…we were not put here to judge. I was shocked to say the least when I heard this though. I think he’ll be fine too. The press will soon grow tired and find some other poor unfortunate soul to dwell on. Must read that book about Montgomery Cliff and Rock Hudson. Title? Still reading SK. You know – life sometimes gets in the way of my reading! ~Elle

I believe most of us had suspected that Bruce was leaning in this direction. Still courage comes in many forms, and this must have meant many a sleepless night for him. Arriving at his decision may have been easy enough, but because of living in the public eye, his going public with it must have made life an almost living hell. Having the courage of your conviction, can sometimes mean just that. “To thine own self be true” is apropos in this case.

I couldn’t imagine what was going on with him when he started the ‘really bad’ plastic surgery. Now that he’s come out and explained what he’s doing, I get it. Unfortunately, he’s in the spotlight for his Olympic medals and his TV appearances. The price one pays for fame.

    • It will get worse before it gets better…sadly. I just hope he’s happy after all of this. You have to wonder if he felt this his whole life. He never gave, at least as far as I could see, any indication when he was younger.

  7. That would take a lot of courage. Even today, it’s still not that common.

Why isn’t Caitlin Jenner at the Special Olympics? So many other stars and athletes are donating their time and energy. Could it be that she wouldn’t be able to wear a designer gown? For someone who allegedly cares so much about others…..
    What a joke.

    • Never occurred to me, maybe they don’t want her. She would steal the show. I feel for her, and can’t imagine what the whole thing must be like. I appreciate your humor, don’t.think I don’t. My pal Robin called to say she’s going to start doing her own nails because Caitlyn does her own. I think she was serious. Thanks for writing.
