We Should All Be So Lucky

Was so sad to read Alberta Watson, the actress from the shows 24 and Le Femme Nikita, passed away from cancer, dying in her husband’s arms.

The poignancy of that made me weep.

To be able to leave this world held by someone you love who loves you might be the greatest gift ever.

Got me thinking.  Who would hold me?  Carmela, the basset hound was the only one who came to mind.  My imagination then went off to the races. “My friends, all three of them, would ask, “what can we do for you Susannah – is there anything you want?”

“Yes, Tubes. I want to see Tubes.”

So among the three, the one who’d speak Spanish would probably be Chris who has quite a few Latinos working for him, so he’d call Carmela’s parents offering to pick her up.  As you know, there’s a bit of a language barrier in Brooklyn.

After bribing her with something Italian like cheese or salami, she would get into his car since I’ve taught her not to talk to strangers unless of course, she felt it was worth her while.

When she saw me she’d jump on the bed wiggling and barking, so happy before checking to see if my PJs had pockets where there might be food.

But it would dawn on her pretty fast something unusual was going on.

She’d then lie across me the big love bug she is and I’d breathe my last.

My point?

How lucky to go out surrounded by those you love.

With the exception of life, who could ask for more?

Alberta Watson oh so beautiful…remarkably talented, gone too soon.

About Susannah Bianchi

I'm just a girl who likes to write slightly on slant. I've had a career in fashion, dabbled in film and to be honest, I don't like talking about myself. Now my posts are another matter so I will let them speak for themselves. My eBooks, A New York Diary, Model Behavior: Friends For Life and Notes From A Working Cat can be found on Amazon.com. Thanks.

Even though i was just a high school acquaintance i would be there for you as i’m sure all of those who follow your blog. After seeing Carmela face though, how can we compete with her ? “A man needs to know his limitations”. You sound a little melancholy this morning – Carmela withdrawal I guess. Take care. Sincerely, Bob.

  4. Carmela would for sure come through for you and so would a bunch of the rest of us!

    • That’s a nice thing to say…thanks. Just saw her. We had a fight over a tennis ball that wasn’t hers. She’s so willful…her breed they say. A French Bulldog was not happy she couldn’t get her ball back. You know how the French can be.

  5. Excuse me … Kate & I will be carpooling along with Hazel & Peanut. The only thing you need to worry about is having a room big enough.

  6. Very sad news and one year younger than my wife and I. I suspect you have more friends than you may realize. Your kind heart helps you stand out from the rest Susannah. Except for maybe when its real cold out LOL. All and all though I think you’re alright!
