The Best Story Of The Week

Every morning I see a dog walker with several poodles, never any other breed.

My first encounter with this handsome, middle-aged man…punky looking with a tattoo of an anchor wrapping around his arm like a nautical tourniquet, was me snapping an aside Myrna Loy style.

“Those dogs look better than I do.” And they do, done to the hilt like black, white and gray ice skaters coiffed by Mr. Kenneth.

I finally said to him, “Tell me something, do you only walk poodles?”

He looked at me for a second, sizing up the question before saying,”I work for someone with 5 homes and 16 standard poodles which is why you see so many different ones.  They change them from time to time.”

“You mean, like closets?”

Happy Labor Day everyone.          poogrp2

I can’t get my head around that. They have poodles in rotation?! I don’t see how one could foster any kind of relationship with an animal that way. And then what’s the point? Is it just possession for possession’s sake?

    • It’s called we have money and can afford to have a revolving kennel. It gives the term show dog all new meaning, doesn’t it. I can say this, they seem quite happy. Their toes are even polished. Must be all girls. Woof 🙂

  2. Just when I thought I heard everything, you come along with the notion that someone is so wealthy they rotate their pets with the seasons … I can’t.

Sixteen rotating poodles?! Susannah, I shouldn’t be surprised. A friend volunteers at a shelter in Long Island. They have had animals brought in because they don’t match the new décor of a home. There’s a big difference between a beloved pet and an accessory.

  4. I deal with dogs. My daughter and son-in-law had a dog and are getting a new one. It is my grand dog and I love it. However, as a general rule, I am a cat person – 16! OMG! I would need 5 houses – 4 for the dogs and 1 for me.
