U.S Representative, John Lewis, has always been a man I’ve greatly admired ever since reading his book, Walking With The Wind (1999), about the Civil Rights Movement.
I remember watching him stand behind Barack Obama when he took the oath of office thinking, wow, this must be a great day for Rev. Lewis, knowing all that he went through in the name of Civil Rights.
He was one of the original Freedom Riders, arrested over 40 times, beaten during the march in Selma, Alabama on March 7, 1965.
Did you know, every time these brave men and women got on that bus, they made out a will, there was that much of a chance they’d not return, yet they still went, and John Lewis was one of them.
He worked alongside Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy, was at the Ambassador Hotel the night RFK was shot.
He’s American History personified, yet he’s the latest peacemaker to take on our soon to be president of The United States.
“Sadly, we have witnessed one polarizing action after another. Since being elected, he has demonstrated hostility toward our free and open press, committed to gutting health insurance for millions of hardworking families, and is filling his cabinet with nominees more closely aligned with Wall Street than Main Street.” John Lewis
John Lewis is a man who could only educate, enlighten, inspiring the utmost grace, yet he too, at 76 years of age, has taken up arms against the man who will soon be our leader.
He says he won’t even attend the inauguration, first one he’s ever missed.
I don’t know about you, but It makes me take eternal pause.

Most of all I love and support democracy… especially when it doesn’t always go the way I think it should. I have learned much from losing really big games that I worked my ass off to win and just fell short. I love living in a country where everyone has a right to vote without fear of harm. I will support this freedom and system regardless and it’s right to beat me fair and square. Most of all I am allowed to oppose people in good spirit without needing to kill their kids etc… Western democracy is apparently about this though I question some people hiding behind such niceties sometimes

Life lately in all aspects, at least for me, is like looking through a colossal funhouse mirror. Everything is distorted. Weather, technology…how it’s taken over the world. Fear and cruelty across the board, and now a Trump presidency. Any minute Elvis might come back, which would be a good thing, but that’s how lunar everything seems. To me…:)

Hunter S Thompson was bang on line when he said “fear and loathing”.

Good words Susannah. We’re going backwards fast. I baulk at thinking where it all will end.
We saw Michael Gove cavorting with Trump on our screens last night. Maeve spat out some “see you next Tuesday” comment at that unholy alliance.

I guess the truth is setting in. Here we go into the universal unknown. It’s going to be a very interesting and scary four years, like watching a very long, bad play.

One thing we can be sure of. Trump didn’t seek election for the sake of the American people, or indeed anyone else, other than Trump.

Hear Hear. I hope he doesn’t gold plate the White House. He’s such a tacky man taste wise on top of everything else. I shudder at the mere mention of him.

Since it is over and a done-deal, I can only hope for the best and that we will begin working together. My fingers are crossed.

There is no other choice. Mr. Lewis shouldn’t be taking on the stress of such a futile argument. Of course civil rights was considered futile too, way back when, so who am I to say. There’s just something very rotten in Washington. God bless you Mr. Lewis in any event.

We need some young people to come forward and take on the cause. I don’t know if they truly understand how hard it was to get those freedoms.
