My friends, Ed and Evelyn, have a great, long term marriage, and frankly, the only one I know of.
There’s the woman who, after 14 years, hates her husband so much, her goal is to have her own bedroom.
Another lady drinks right before her man comes home because she can’t stand the sight of him, as if she’s married to a Smurf.
But back to Ed and Evelyn who actually like each other, still share the same bed and take care of the other.
For instance…Evelyn places Ed’s pajamas…his Brooks Brothers specials…on the radiator while he takes a shower, so they’re warm and toasty when he puts them on.
I just love that she does that, so when Ed, a retired furniture maker who occasionally makes an reappearance in wood, told me he was making new radiator covers, I immediately thought…but what about warming your pajamas?
You can’t possibly be giving that up for aesthetics. I mean, get real.
Yeah I know, Susannah, get a life, but that gesture of hers has always stayed with me.
It proves a union, even if it’s decades old, can still flourish, with affectionate, in every season.
I need to ask Ed about the future of his PJs.
