Best Story of the Week…November 5th

I’m walking up Madison after my run, looking at all the stores boarded up like an old abandoned movie set, fearing post election looting.

There are two young construction workers sipping coffee by the corner synagogue I can’t help looking at.

They’re right out of Elia Kazan’s classic film, East of Eden, with their tight Levis and well-worked-in denim shirts, red neckerchiefs rather than masks dangling defiantly…dusty boots, dappled with dares.

One of them, his boot perched on a bench, is combing his wavy, black hair.

As I pass we make eye contact.

“Ya gotta a date?” I ask, smirking like a cat.

“Two,” he says, without missing a beat.

He winks…

I giggle.

Did Mr. Kazan just say cut, or am I just dreamin’?ย

About Susannah Bianchi

I'm just a girl who likes to write slightly on slant. I've had a career in fashion, dabbled in film and to be honest, I don't like talking about myself. Now my posts are another matter so I will let them speak for themselves. My eBooks, A New York Diary, Model Behavior: Friends For Life and Notes From A Working Cat can be found on Amazon.com. Thanks.

  1. Leave it to you to enter a scene and set things off with a spark of humor! The hero played right along.

What a cocky young stud, ha ha! I can just picture that beefy eye candy in all his denim. And I bet he was telling the truth about his dates. Tight jeans, so much more appealing than droopy drawers topped with exposed undies or worse, butt crack.
My first sight of Pookie was in his work clothes; white painter pants, no shirt, lots of toned muscle. And it was at the local tavern by candle light (the power had gone out).

Love it, Susannah! It’s fun when others join in like that. Way better than watching CNN.

And what does it say of society when, in fear of potential destruction, one must board up their place of business? Honestly. A win = looting, A loss = looting. How did this come to be part of our – and I say ‘our’ because Canadians are eejits too – at least when it comes to sports wins and losses – culture?

  4. Great scene, Susannah. Much better than CNN. Of course, in my mind, anything is better than CNN. This reminded me of my construction jobs while in college. Seems I was more interesting to talk to in dust-covered denim than a button-down and slacks. Fun post.

Mmm, I could use a young construction worker with dappled boots right now… I have tons of things that need fixing around here! That’s the only thing they’re good for, right? ๐Ÿ˜‡

Atta boy! And oh wait . . . Atta girl!

This was a Broadway production happening, gratis . . on the streets of a city whose passion and smarts is a show unto itself.
